History of the Arkansas Limousin Breeders Association (ALBA)

2004:

The Arkansas Limousin Breeders Association (ALBA) started on April 20, 2004 as the Ozark Mountain Limousin Association as a non-profit organization filed by the state of Arkansas on said date. This young Arkansas Limousin Association was started when Calvin Harris got together with a few other limousin breeders throughout the state. Those first members were: Joyce Stewart, Lloyd Doublehead, and Carl Birkner. We had our first general membership meeting in Harrison, AR. In June of 2004 at that time we only had 8 members. Not enough to have election for officers, so we elected directors only:

In 2004-2005, in order to jump start our new association the following members gave $100.00 that year to join as a founder member. This added income got our association started. April 2004 we came out with our association newsletter which we send out by monthly to all members to keep everyone informed what is going on in our state with limousin.

 

On December 6, 2004 the OMLA Directors voted and passed to change our name from the Ozark Mountain Limousin Association to the present Arkansas Limousin Breeders Association. This name change took effecting on this date as filed through the state of Arkansas.

 

2005:

In January 2005 we had our first general membership meeting as the Arkansas Limousin Breeders Association. Our membership voted for our first officers and directors for the 2005 year.

1. Junior Association, or Arkansas Junior Limousin Breeders Assn. (AJLBA). Was also formed at our general membership meeting on January 2005. The first junior advisor was Laura Harris. As they formed they also elected their junior officers for 2005.
2. ALBA awarded the first annual high point belt buckle to the junior that scored the highest points at the 3 major shows. Eric Birkner won this first award and was presented by Calvin and Laura Harris at the meeting.
3. We printed our first breeders directory and mailed out to all members and those that interested in limousin in our state.
4. We wrote our ALBA By-laws and approved them at our membership meeting.
5. Our Junior association had their first Junior Limousin Field Day and it was also sanctioned by AJCA.
